
President, Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations (Saco)
Anna Ekström is President of the Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations, Saco since 2001. Saco is a confederation of 24 independent associations that represent 600 000 members, all of whom are academics or graduate professionals with a college and/or university degree. She is also President of Saco Unemployment Insurance Fund (AEA).
Anna Ekström has a profound experience in labour-related questions, both from a domestic and a European perspective. She has served as State Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Employment and Communications (1999-2001) as well as State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour (1998-1999). During the Swedish Presidency of the EU in 2001 she coordinated Employment Policy and the Spring European Council. In 2003 she served as a member of the High Level Task Force of Employment, headed by Wim Kok. 2002-2008 she served as a member of the Swedish National Labour Market Board. Anna Ekström is a member of the Executive Committee for the European Trade Union Confederation and a Board Member of the First Swedish National Pension Fund. She also serves as the Vice President of the Board of Uppsala University.
